Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • A very good mid size SUV - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Im generally very happy with this vehicle. We have had it for 3 years and over 50000 miles without any problems other than replacing the brake rotors. Our laredo is loaded with options and is fun and comfortable to drive. The stereo is great. My favorite feature is the quadradrive. This system is awesome how it sends power to the wheels with traction. I have tried and not been able to get it stuck in mud, snow and sand. I thought the V6 had enough power until we started towing a boat now wish I had a V8. Its a tough, go anywhere vehicle that doesnt look like a station wagon or minivan with four wheel drive. This has been a fantastic vehicle for us. No major problems in the almost 8 years we owned it. Only one minor transmission leak along the way and we were told that, at 183,000 miles, it had many, many miles left. Cant rave enough about this rig.

  • Great SUV. - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Purchased Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit a month ago. Already have 2k miles on it and it is indeed a joy to drive. Handles in snow and high winds beautifully. The electronics are a bit overwhelming in the first few days - best to plan a few 10 minute parking times to play with adjustments. I found lots of great features in the menus. Love it so far. And the weather has given the SUV a real workout. But it is an amazingly comfortable, quiet and nice riding vehicle!

  • the real deal - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

this is my second jeep and i like it better than most suvs out there. this is a true go anywhere vehicle period. if you feel you need an suv as a daily driver, better look for something else because this is for those who actually need a capable vehicle able to go through almost anything nature throws at them. maybe this is why jeeps are often used as search and rescue vehicles and not just for off road. the only other true suvs that is as capable as a jeep is a hummer, a rover, and an mb g-series. thats it. a jeep is what you need and will be glad that you have when the going gets real tough.

  • Poor Long Term Reliability - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

The Jeep Grand Cherokee was a decent SUV for the first five years - but for the last three years its just been bleeding money. In the past 24 months, Ive spend over $7,000 keeping this thing running. New rear axle, right rear bearing, left rear bearing, power steering pump, fuel pump, battery, fuel filter, power window motors (2), two speakers, hood shocks, all new shocks, tires multiple times, 3 new oxygen sensors for the engine, two new engine (spark plug) coils, new fuel regulator, starter. The worst thing is the alignment. Because Jeep does not allow the camber to be adjusted, I have a slight pull to the left, and need to have the tires rotated at 3k miles and replaced often.

  • Death around the corner - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I have been a Jeep fan for for years. I own a 1996 Cherokee Sport with over 100,000 miles that will still get up and go without hesitation. But driving my 2007 Laredo, stalling out, hesitating and poor acceleration is nothing more then a death trap waiting to happen. At 45mph it stalled out again, with traffic behind me. I hit my hazard lights and tried to pull over to the side while pressing the gas pedal to the floor. Then as suddenly as it hesitated, it excellerated!! Driving this car keeps me on pins and needles. Every time I leave my drive way, I think will this be the time, Death meets me around the corner? There needs to be a recall now!

  • Love the Jeep - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Absolutely love my Jeep. Very fun to drive and it looks great. It has turned a lot of heads. Although it calls for premium fuel I have run a mixture of low-mid-premium without any problems of knocking.

  • Good performer for a price - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We bought this vehicle with about 26K miles it served us well until 6 months ago. After hitting 34k miles there are many electrical hickups (Lights, Info center, Alarm, The horn botton collapse) Then the water pump started leaking (replaced that one too) now the rear differential is making whiny noise and who knows how much that going to cost.

  • Waste of money - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

  • 4th jeep and what a fail - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Have owned three JGC prior to this one (95,96,02) and all had miles on them. This one we spent some money on and had only 80,000 KM on it when we got it. This 2006 is junk. Engine ticks (Hemi tick) quieter if you run synthetic oil but still there. 8 quarts to change it. Started making a noise at 90k from the back. Replaced both wheel bearings, nope, its in the differential. Quote 1500-3000. Drive shaft "u joint" failing. Non serviceable "ujoint" have to replace entire driveshaft another 1500. Engine runs sluggish unless you put super in it. All this on a five year old $55k vehicle with under 100KM on it. Ive seen this movie before. Didnt fix any of the crap and traded it in on a honda
